Highboy

A highboy is a tall chest of drawers built in two stacked sections: an upper case of drawers sitting on a separate lower base, itself usually fitted with its own drawer or two and standing on legs (often cabriole legs on period examples). The form is closely associated with 18th-century American and English furniture, and a matching low, wide companion piece built the same way is called a lowboy.

Building a highboy is as much a case-construction exercise as a joinery one -- the upper case has to sit securely (and often removably, for moving) on the lower base, and both sections individually need to be square, stable, and resistant to racking despite their height.
