Rake Angle

Rake angle is the forward or backward tilt of a saw blade's (or a hand plane iron's) cutting edge relative to a line perpendicular to the direction of travel. A more positive (steeper forward) rake bites into the material more aggressively, cutting faster but rougher and with more tendency to grab; a lower or negative rake cuts more slowly and smoothly, with less aggressive bite -- which is why blades meant for clean crosscuts and miter saws often use a lower or negative rake, while ripping blades built for fast material removal along the grain use a higher, more aggressive rake.

It's a spec most woodworkers never adjust directly (it's ground into the blade at manufacture, not user-adjustable the way blade tilt is), but understanding it explains why two blades with the same tooth count can still cut noticeably differently.
